Why Tea + Calligraphy?
As you may know, tea plays a significant role in my daily routine. Not only is it a grounding ritual for me, tea is ingrained in my culture as a Taiwanese-American.
Also, being caffeine-sensitive, I'm mindful in selecting teas (other than decaf/herbal) which are lower in caffeine and provide a calming effect.
Recently, I’ve learned about the ancient practice of "wu xin"? Literally translated from Chinese, it means "no mind" or empty heart-mind. It's a mental state practiced by martial artists, or anyone trying to achieve a calm and clear mind, free from distractions and worries of daily life.
This practice is often incorporated into tea rituals, to take a moment and simply appreciate what's in front of you.
We can all use extra calming vibes these days, my hope for the tea + calligraphy classes is to bring together community, creativity, and calm.
For our tea + calligraphy workshops, we’ll begin our time with a brief tea ceremony/appreciation - to quiet our minds and let go of the week’s worries; to settle in and savor.
