Black Sesame Matcha Oat Milk Latte

On hot, summer days when I just don’t feel like cooking or eating anything heavy, I make this iced black sesame matcha oat milk latte for breakfast or an afternoon snack to hold me over until dinner.

The nutty, fragrant black sesame is a comforting, nostalgic flavor that reminds me of childhood - who knew it was full of health benefits, too! It’s full of antioxidants and fiber, and is known to aid digestion. Paired with matcha and oat milk, this latte is jam-packed with good stuff - though if you’re watching your sugar intake, you may want to cut down on the sugar or use a healthier alternative like maple syrup. I wouldn’t eliminate it completely as the black sesame can be bitter on its own.

Black Sesame Matcha Oat Milk Latte

Makes 1 glass

To keep things simple, I use a black sesame powder that can sometimes be found at Asian grocery stores or on Amazon - there’s always the option of pulverizing black sesame seeds!

Ingredients
1/4 cup black sesame powder
6-8 oz oat milk (or milk of choice)
1-2 tablespoons simple syrup* / maple syrup
1 teaspoon matcha
2-4 oz water, room temp or cold
5-6 ice cubes, or enough to fill half glass

Directions:

Mix black sesame powder and milk in a cup or small bowl. Set aside.

Whisk matcha and water in a small bowl or cup for 15 seconds or until clumps dissolve. Set aside.

Add ice to glass. Then add simple syrup (see note below) or maple syrup. Pour in black sesame milk mixture. Finally, gently pour the prepared matcha over the ice to create the layered effect.

*You can make simple syrup by combining sugar and boiling water in a 1:1 ratio. Make ahead of time to let cool and store in refrigerator for up to a week.
